WAWRC Marketplace

WAWRC, like its membership is unfunded, relying on sporadic grants, donations and grass roots fund-raising to fund its operations. We don't plan to become a supplier of rehabilitation items but are able to offer some of the more difficult to source items both as a fund-raiser, and as a benefit to our members. Many of WAWRC's members also have unique wildlife-related products for sale to fund their wildlife rehabilitation work.

WAWRC welcomes all overseas and interstate .

These difficult to obtain Syringe Cannulas are usually only available to wildlife rehabilitators through scrounging which means uncertainty of availability along with gauge size.

To begin with we’re only stocking 14 gauge x 4.5cm (pictured - toothpick included for scale) but may consider adding a thinner gauges according to demand.  These are ideal for tiny neonates of all types.  Unfortunately, they’re not cheap at $2 each as we’re throwing away most of the unit just to get the cannula tip.

We now have in stock coloured Syringe Caps which keep the contents of syringes intact until ready for use, or before you attach tubing for feeding.  These caps will fit either Luer Lock or Luer Slip Syringes.

With a syringe cap in place all the pre-filled syringes can lay in a warm water bath until required.  They’re 20c each plus $1.20 postage within Australia.  If ordering with other items, please email beforehand for a quote on the postage costs.

These Curved Tip Syringes are ideal for baby birds but must be used with great care as there is a very real risk of aspiration.  The syringes are graduated.

The syringes should be used with one of the smooth-action plungers from one of our 10ml Silicone “0” ring Syringes as if the plunger grabs, as is likely with the original plunger, and then releases there is the danger of aspirating the animal.

The tips on these syringes may be cut down and used either as is for syringe feeding, or with a tube for tube feeding, thicker liquids like Granivore and Insectivore.

Standard 10ml Syringe on left, cut-down 12ml Curved Tip Syringe on right

We have stocks of the popular Silicone Teats which are ideal for neonate Possums, Phascogales and Quendas when used on a syringe.  These long-lasting clear silicone teats (only made in this one size) are stiffer than latex teats enabling easy insertion into the Diastema; a great help in starting clenched-mouth neonates feeding.   An added advantage is that these teats will withstand the sharp teeth of Phascogales and Bandicoots

These teats are identical to the Mikki® brand teats which are no longer available in Australia. (The match is included for scale only).

Some of our customers just can't get enough of our products !

This little Wambenger (Phascogale) wasn’t going to let a good thing slip between his fingers... or his feet, or his teeth. Not only did the teat survive this onslaught but it's still in use months later with no signs of wear.

Little Muzz in Darwin may only be 66 grams but he too knows when he’s onto a good thing and is keeping a firm grip on the teat.

Basik ®
Syringes

We are now stocking Basik syringes, luer slip, in 1ml, 10ml, 20ml and 50-60ml. These sterile syringes have a silicon "0" ring on the plunger which results in a smooth plunger movement and, like the silicon teats, are long lasting. They’re the next best thing to a glass syringe !

The 20ml are an ideal size for older Kangaroo joeys, and the 50-60ml are needed when tubing large birds such as Petrels, Swans and Raptors.

Unfortunately, although the syringes weigh almost nothing, their thickness means that their postage costs are higher than those for a standard-sized envelope. We reserve the right to limit quantities to individual usage needs.

Disposable masks

Disposable masks are 4 for $1. When bought individually from pharmacies these masks retail for 70-1.25c each. These can be mailed at an additional cost of 60c.

Masks should be worn when performing post mortems and when handling psittacines of unconfirmed health status. They’re also a handy addition to the bathroom cabinet - useful when vacuuming if you have a dust allergy, essential when dealing with potting mix or mulch, and handy to pack for travelling in case you should encounter an epidemic or have to sit next to someone with a hacking cough and runny nose on a long-haul flight (which for West Australians is pretty much any flight out of Perth).

Pipettes

Graduated pipettes are available in two sizes - 1ml (pictured) and 3ml Although the Pipettes are unused they’re not sterile ie in an individual sealed wrapper. These too are 4 for $1, plus $1.20 postage

WAWRC now has Wildlife Rescue Safety Day-Vests in an eye-popping bright lime-yellow.   Keep one in the car along with your in-car rescue kit.    The vests'  sizing doesn't seem to be consistent with clothing sizes in that the Medium is more like a Small, the Large a Medium, etc   Bear in mind too that these are worn over outdoor clothes. Also because the vests are straight in shape you need to choose the size according to whichever is the larger measurement - your chest, or your hips.

Safety Vest Sizes

  M L XL
Chest 110 116 122

If you only want one vest, the cost is $16.50 posted within Australia

Postage

As the range of items has increased it's difficult to estimate postage costs for a mixed order. For this reason it is suggested that you email your order through so that we can accurately calculate the postage and advise you before you make your payment. If you're only ordering teats, the postage cost is 60c within Australia.
